There?s simply not a path forward to technologies looking for problems. The commericialisation process has to be customer focused.? *India suffering worst water crisis in its history* ?A nationally unprecedented water crisis threatens the lives of millions in India,? according to the *National Institute for Transforming India (NITI Aayog)*  think tank, and ?is only going to get worse.? Around 600 million people suffer under high to extreme water stress, and two hundred thousand die every year due to inadequate access to safe water, NITI argues . Within 12 years, the growth of cities and subsequent demand for water is likely to reach twice the current supply, and could wipe as much as 6 percent off India?s GDP. *Blockchain: the final drop in the wave of digital water disruption* ?For water utilities that are incorporating an ever expanding menu of digital water technologies,? writes IWA?s *Emma Weisbord*, ?secure blockchain systems diminish risks of hacking, data destruction and improve transparency. The shift of water utilities towards digital water technologies brings about exciting and paradigm shifting opportunities. The uptake of sensors and big data usage by utilities require data reliability, accessibility and analytics which can partly be managed via blockchain systems.? UK water watchdog criticises customer neglect during thaw Severn Trent Water and Thames Water buckled as combined blizzards and thaws burst water pipes and left 200,000 customers for hours without supply. Those companies ?were slower and less effective than companies that already had robust plans in place and had better network data,? according to the UK water regulator Ofwat . By contrast, Northumbrian Water, United Utilities, Wessex Water and Yorkshire Water employed real time information and monitoring systems to ?demonstrate resilience?, and move water supplies to areas of most need. Levels of water reuse not good enough, says EU ?Our farmers will have access to a sustainable supply for irrigation water, our consumers will know the products they eat are safe, and our businesses will see new opportunities,? said *Karmenu Vella*, European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. ?The biggest winner of them all will be our environment as the proposal contributes to better management of our most precious resource?water.? *Shifting Values Towards Conservation* ?Unless you are a water professional, fervent environmentalist or individual dealing with extreme water scarcity on daily basis,? writes *Devon Hardy*, ?water may not be something you think about until your utility rates increase or you are offered a rebate on a low flow toilet. As water professionals and activists, part of our purpose lies in persuading the world to increasingly think of water as a valuable resource, until conservation becomes a habit rather than a reaction to some politically motivated stimulus.? BROUGHT TO YOU BY TORO Industry Update: PercoMeta Project, first step to industrialization A project led by *Toro Equipment* in collaboration with *Cartif Technology Center* and other enterprises from France, tries to optimize the anaerobic digestion of cereal straw, reducing costs and increasing the quality of generated biogas. PercoMeta Project has developed a new simple, robust and trustworthy technical process of anaerobic digestion, in which the costs of functioning, energetic consumption, maintenance and personnel are reduced significantly with regard to other similar technologies. *Select your list for IWA email* *The IWA-network, * IWA newsletter  and updates from our work around the world.
